Our annual Iron Chef competition was held last Saturday, April 30, 2016 at our Boston Newton Office. Secret ingredient for this year was Avocados!
This year we were very honored to have two guest speaker to come over to our event and give us a presentation. Our first speaker was Chris Hendrickson from The Humane League of Boston to talk about his organization, and also Environmentalism and it’s relationship to Vegetarianism/ Veganism. Our second speaker was Purvi Patel, an environmental engineer with the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs who presented us the topic of Vegetarianism and the idea of flexitarian. After presentation, we divided ourselves into groups and played our "Hungry Game". And, our iron chef competition started right after the game ended. Competition lasted for 2 hours. During this 2 hours, each team (We have 6 team joined this year!!) cooked an appetizer dish, an entree, and also a dessert dish using Avocados as the key ingredient. All dishes are VEGAN dishes! We invited 5 judges: Chris, Purvi, Ellen, Alice, and Victor (from Boston Vegetarian Society) to judge all 6 team's dishes based on taste, flavor, authenticity, presentation, and team work! (p/s: Can I tell you, being a judge is a tough job! We THANK YOU all judges!) All 6 teams did a splendid job! The award list are as follow: Most cooperative team: SG/SB Team Most energetic team: Tzu Shao Favourite appetizer: Dartmouth Alumni Team Favourite Main Dish: Dartmouth Alumni Tean Favourite dessert: Boston Alumni Team Best presentation: Tzu Ching Team I can make this too: The 3 Stooges Iron Chef 2016: Dartmouth Alumni Team This fun and meaningful event ended with a full, happy, and healthy belly, what's better than this?! :)
